Exercising with Heavy Slam Balls in My Backyard Gym

What is a slam ball?

Slam balls are similar to traditional medicine balls and can be used for natural bodybuilding workouts to safely target hard to reach muscle groups. They are designed for throwing. They do not bounce and have a heavy duty outer shell that prevents the slam ball from breaking upon impact with the ground. When searching internet, a slam ball shouldn’t be confused with SlamBall which is a form of basketball played with four trampolines.

I have three slam balls in my home gym: 8, 15, and 30 pounds.

8 lb. I can grab it with one hand and I am using it mostly when exercising on a balance board or bosu half ball. Recently, I added it to my rebounding routine on a mini trampoline.

15 lb. My mostly used slam ball, usually, outside. Sometimes, I take it for travels. It’s fun to do a slam ball workout at sunrise somewhere in a prairie.

30 lb. The newest addition, great one for lifting or squats, but for slamming on a ground I prefer the lighter one. The heavy one just drops down with a gravity.

I just posted a short video on Youtube featuring these slam balls in my backyard. It was more about exploring different camera angles rather than actual workout. I combined clips from three cameras: Fuji FX100, GoPro 10 and DJI Mavic 3 drone. I still need to improve my ball slamming techniques as well as video editing skills.

Still images (and some video clips) are included in my stock photography portfolio and can be licensed as royalty free images.

Are you using slam balls outside? What are your favorite exercises?
