At present, I own four Tibetan or Himalayan singing bowls of varying sizes: 9 inches, 6 inches, 4.3 inches, and 3.5 inches. I bought all of them on Amazon. They usually don’t provide sound recording for specific bowls, so my links and video clips may help you to learn what sound they actually produce.
The large bowl has a really beautiful deep tone when touched by a drum stick or roller mallet. However, for a rim tone, I prefer smaller bowls. I consider the 6″ bowl my best investment. It can sustain the sound for about 1 minute, probably, longer than the 9″ one. It is quite challenging to make sing the small 3.5″ bowl. This is easier done with a light wooden roller.
As an experiment I also bought the cheapest bowl available on Amazon (3.25″ bowl below $20), but I couldn’t make it sing. So, I returned that one back. If you intend to purchase only one bowl, it’s best to avoid the smallest one.
I am creating short video clips featuring my singing bowls for my YouTube channel. Here are some recent examples:
How do you like the sound of my Tibetan singing bowls combined with aerial footage? So far, I’ve been using drone footage from my backyard shot around sunrise.
